Welcome to all and thank you for joining us on the maiden voyage of the new Indy Great Pyr Website.
I can't think of a better subject, Great Pyrenees, a truly amazing working dog with a documented history of being one of the oldest dog breeds. These dogs that come into rescue have not always had a wonderful life, they may not have wanted to work as was expected of them, they may have suffered abuse and neglect. It is with all my heart and soul I urge all to get involved and make a difference for an animal in need. It is an epidemic in this country, perhaps together we can all make a difference with small baby steps.
I am excited to launch this site and am looking forward to some amazing work from many contributors! I will also call upon my ghost Pyr writer to help me out. I have a special female Pyr at home that has changed me in so many ways I can't even begin to tell. She has taught me more about life and myself than any person or experience I have known in life. She came to me a terrified failed livestock guardian and I was clueless as to what I was doing with her. With a lot of help from some amazing people -- 8 months later after nearly giving up on that girl, she got her AKC Canine Good Citizenship Certification (CGC) and her Therapy Dogs International Certification (TDI) to be a therapy dog. I often say she started out in life and changed her career paths as many of us have....the big question...yes, she is an alumni of IGPR--thanks John and Jane--you truly gave me my best friend!
Welcome all, this will be a public site, all will be asked to contribute stories, photos. WE are all a family of white fur (how true that is!) Share with us when a beloved Pyr is lost - we all can mourn together when one of feels the loss of their beloved Pyr and rejoice when a new bundle of white fur enters our lives or something crazy happens on our Brag Page--Pyrs and their crazy antics, really?
Please check back often and see what is new! Please submit articles and photos care of me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

IGPR - Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue
We are a not for profit rescue group that is run by volunteers. We do not have a facility, all of our dogs are fostered in volunteers' homes. We primarily rescue Great Pyrenees in Indiana, and Kentucky based on the availability of foster homes. We do accept Great Pyrenees mixes too, also based on availability. The love and guidance you can provide by fostering a Great Pyrenees can make you a hero to that Pyrenees in need. The majority of our dogs are fostered in the Indianapolis area with scattered foster homes all around IN and KY.
Fosters Desperately Needed!!!!
The more fosters we have, the more we can save! We understand fostering a dog is a big commitment and may not be the easiest thing to do. It's easy to settle into a daily routine and not want to take on an additional responsibilities. There is an orphaned pyr who very much needs to settle into your routine with you too, to help them find a forever home. By having a foster dog spend time with you, your pets, and family members, it helps us understand what type of home is best suited for each dog, along with their individual habits, quirks and traits that make each one unique, so we can share that information with potential adopters. It also teaches the dog how to properly behave in a household, which will make them more adoptable. By fostering a dog, you provide invaluable care, nurturing, guidance, and structure that cannot be purchased or replicated in any kennel environment. We provide all medical care- you provide the food and love! (Crates available too if needed) We so appreciate those of you who have fostered for us in the past ,and those who are continuing to do so. Please help a homeless pyr by opening your heart and home to them. If you can foster a pyr, we'd love to hear from you!Send us a note with Foster Volunteer in the subject line to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Adopting a friend
All adoptable pyrs are spayed or neutered, have received rabies, bordatella and dhlpp vaccines, are heartworm tested, have received heartworm and flea preventative, and are micro-chipped. We have a standard adoption fee of $300.00 for adults, $350.0 for pups less than 6 months old, and $200.00 for dogs over 6 years old. This fee helps defray the cost of our out-of-pocket expenses (with the rising cost of veterinary care) to care for each dog with food, medical expenses, grooming, transport from shelters to foster homes, etc. It also ensures that you adopt a healthy, happy dog. Approval for adoption requires completion of an adoption application, an approved home visit, and vet check, and signing an adoption agreement upon receipt of the dog. An above ground fenced yard is required unless otherwise noted on a dog's posting on petfinder.com. Payment for the dog is due at the time of adoption. We do not allow debarking of any of our adopted dogs. If barking is an issue for you or your neighbors - consider another breed - pyrs were bred to bark! Our adoption agreement also requires you to return the dog to us if you are no longer able to provide a home for the dog. If you have knowledge of someone who may want to adopt your dog, they will need to through the same adoption process you did before receiving your pyr.
